Back from the Bonn voyage

June 28th, 2011

I know, I know. I’m too lazy to update nowadays. Was traveling in Europe for a little over a week, and I got carried away with preparations and the actual trip. Since my last update, I’ve said goodbye to Metro for good, attended the Deutsche Welle Global Media Forum in Bonn, Germany, and went tripping around Amsterdam for a few days. Life is pretty good at the moment, and I’m enjoying the calm before the grad school storm. So since I got back two days ago, I’ve been doing nothing but reading Harry Potter, sleeping, baking cookies, eating, and playing with the dog. It feels awesome.

However, I believe that this period of blissful nothingness makes for great recovery from last week’s exhilarating but definitely exhausting trip. Every time I go to Europe (five times now, wheee!), I manage to literally wear my shoes thin. Here’s a couple of snapshots from the conference and the Bonn trip (Cologne and Amsterdam later on).

With Dumitru our layout artist and Carmen, the editor-in-chief. We worked on Orange, a magazine helmed by the European Youth Press for events such as the media forum.

With our mostly female team: me, Christina from Germany, Carmen from Belgium/Romania, Luczia from Switzerland (she grew up in the Alps!), and Katherine from Canada

At the cruise down the Rhine sponsored by DHL. Free-flowing beer and food! Talked to Mr. Eggert, whom I met in 2007 during my first-ever visit to Germany.

Relaxing with a glass of chilled Kölsch beer. They serve Kölsch in small 200-ml glasses, not those huge steins that tourists often associate with Germany.
