Last night, I watched three episodes of “Pretty Little Liars,” a new teen drama, on the recommendation of Ani, our managing editor at Metro. “Watch it, it’s fun,” she urged. She gave me nine episodes a couple of weeks ago, but I never got around to watching the show until last night.
It’s not bad; it’s certainly no “Gossip Girl” or even “The O.C.,” but it’s compelling enough, although the characters are a little two-dimensional. Then again, I’d seen only three episodes, so maybe I should reserve judgment on that. The clothes aren’t great and the music is so-so, and these are usually crucial elements in a teen-oriented show.

Moderately hot actresses, so-so clothes and music: Pretty Little Liars needs to step up its game. And oh, how can a teen-oriented show have only one cute guy? That's a crime in teen television.
It’s not exactly popular at the moment; in attempting to explain the concept of the show, people say, “It’s like ‘Desperate Housewives,’ only for teens.” Well, I don’t know any self-respecting teen who would watch a show that’s similar to something her parents would watch, but who knows? It would be better if they market the show as a whodunit, because so far, that’s what it is.
On a lighter note, Shay Mitchell (who plays the sexually-confused Emily) looks so much like Maricar Reyes, especially on the show. Even their expressions are alike.
What do you think?
