After adding a couple of co-workers, I noted that I had 1,833 friends on Facebook. Some of them are close friends, others are old classmates, and most are acquaintances from the industry I work in. A few others are relatives whom I don’t know but have the same last name as I do. Recently, I read a Tweet from my brother, who was cleaning out his Facebook list. 250 friends deleted, he typed. I thought it was a great idea, but a lot easier to do when you’re a student. In the industry I work in, where so much depends on egos, the simple act of unfriending someone can spell social disaster. I just got off the phone with someone I had known since high school; unfortunately, I can’t really refer to that person as a friend, because too much had happened for both of us to call each other that.

I’m going to be a little personal here, because it’s really not my intention for this blog to be a commercial space to promote things all the time. “Twenteensomething” is my online space for people who, like me, are looking for their place in the sun—and the stuff that I think interests them, which is why I blog about other lifestyle-related events and products. This is a space for both silly things and the drama that goes along with everyday life, and I don’t want to keep making apologies for occasionally writing about personal issues, because if my sole intention was to promote new products, I’d tell you to pick up a magazine instead.
