I just got bored with the scrapbook layout and went for something cleaner. Karlo, my website designer, hopes to finish everything by this week. Looking forward to that!
Delegates at the Berlin Reichstag
In other news, it’s been a year since I flew off to Berlin, Germany for the Multimedia and Online Journalism course. Sentimentality comes up in leaps and bounds when it’s time for anniversaries. I found myself visiting the Facebook site of this year’s delegate, a journ batchmate from UP Diliman. My heart literally hurt, knowing how much fun he was already having (particularly because I think it was his very first trip abroad), and because I was envious of what was in store for him. Weird, because I already went through the same thing.
I suppose it’s not a strange thing, being envious of someone for going through an experience you already had. I found myself looking through my iPhoto albums, thinking “Hey, this time last year, we learned how to commute to school taking the bus and the S-Bahn.” It was followed by, “Yeah, why did I put up with a leaky faucet for a week?” Then I went on to, “Damn, if I could do the same thing again, I would do it so much better. I’d cook better food for myself, for one thing.”
But at the same time, I’m also envious of the person that I was at that time. Who was that plucky Filipina who headed out one snowy Sunday in search of an organic market only to realize that was obviously closed for the winter, and how did she manage to still find joy in the smallest snowflakes despite the blustery cold? How did she manage to get through all that work while trying to hurdle the communication barrier? Right now, there are so many things that I wish I could be, and I know I can be the person I want to be because I’ve seen a glimpse of things yet to come.
