Metro magazine, ABS-CBN Publishing’s flagship title, is looking for a new staff writer. If you like beauty, fashion, food, travel, events and meeting interesting people, this could be the job for you.
If you’re game for anything, hardworking, creative and open-minded, we can guarantee you’ll have a good time. Metro is one of the country’s most widely circulated and respected publications, so you’ll be lucky enough to work with a recognizable title that needs no introduction. (You’ll also meet a lot of celebrities and attend a lot of events, if that’s your thing). Interested? Take note of the following:
1. You must be able to know how to write well. Good grammar and an engaging style are non-negotiable. I cannot emphasize this enough. Mere interest in beauty/fashion/travel/food is not enough. The position is for staff writer, after all.
2. You must know how to submit on time. Our magazine, like any publication, is deadline-driven. This is very important. We’ve heard all the excuses because we’ve made them at one time or another.
3. You should be willing to write about a wide variety of topics. Nick Joaquin said that there are no hack-writing jobs, only hack writers. Even if you graduated summa cum laude with a journalism or English degree, if you feel that some topics are beneath you, you will have a difficult time. An open mind is key to enjoying a job in publishing.
4. The ability to work with photos is a plus. You won’t be required to take photos, but sometimes, we will be sending you to shoots with a photographer. The ability to do some art direction and styling for accompanying visuals is very welcome.
This is a full-time position, but not a 9am-5pm job; you won’t be stuck at your desk the whole day, whew. You will be considered part of the Metro staff should you be accepted for the position. Details will be discussed if we contact you for an interview.
Still game? Email a cover letter introducing yourself, a resume, and some sample articles to biancaconsunji@yahoo.com. We’re also always looking for new writers, so even if you can’t take on the position but still want to write for us, we would love to hear from you. Again, just send your resume and sample articles (very important!) to the email address listed above.
Any questions? Just list them below, and I’ll get back to you.
