Win a pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses!

February 28th, 2010

I had a semi-lousy day yesterday, salvaged only by a sleepover with my favorite girl friends. Half the day was spent arguing with my boyfriend while I waited for my sister for over an hour at the grocery. The searing summer heat did nothing to improve my mood. But I didn’t want everyone to see that I was annoyed, so I slipped on a pair of sunglasses as soon as I stepped outside and wham!  Instead of pissed, I looked glamorous (okay maybe not, but I didn’t look angry, at the very least).

Funny how sunglasses can change your look, and sometimes even your mood, in a split second. One moment, you’re an angry young punk, and in the next, a sophisticated could-be rock star. Just with a pair of giant sunglasses! Before, I never used to wear them (I like seeing colors for what they are, and I don’t usually like talking to people when I can’t see their eyes unless I’m wearing sunglasses too), but the scorching sun made it necessary for me to bring a pair wherever I am.

A sunny day in California with my dad

For sunglasses, it’s hard to beat the classic styles of Ray-Ban. My brother loves his Wayfarers, while my boyfriend uses Aviators to protect his eyes from the sun’s glare when he’s out on flights. I like Wayfarers too, but recently, I’ve been lusting over their Jackie O. shades. I think they’re the perfect summer sunglasses.

Classic Jackie O. shades

As promised, I’m holding another contest this week. Want your own pair of Jackie O. or Aviator Ray-Bans? Read on for details! (To people who read the entry earlier, I changed the mechanics to make them simpler).

As I said, it’s easier to hide how you’re feeling when you’re wearing a pair of sunglasses. But more than that, sunglasses complete a look as well: they can make you look mysterious, glamorous, seductive. If you’re lucky, sunglasses can make you look better than you really do (haha). But sunglasses, more than anything, are there to protect your eyes (or if you’re Quinn from Glee, your reputation).

Quinn's key to being popular: sunglasses

Make sure that you’re wearing original sunglasses with real UV protection, not some ripoff from a tiangge because they’ll only damage your peepers (the dark tint fools your eyes into adjusting, but it’s only superficial protection).

Love sunglasses for the summer, but don’t have an original pair/or simply want a new one? Send in your entry and win a pair of Ray-Bans? All you have to do is send a photo of yourself!

1. Take/pick a photo of you wearing sunglasses. The theme? “My favorite summer look.” Be as creative as you can be. Show yourself in your favorite summer destination, by the pool, hanging out with friends, etc.

2. Join the official Ray-Ban Philippines Facebook Fan Page.

3.  Upload your photo on the Facebook wall so it’ll be part of the Fan Photos album. (Click the photo icon, attach the photo. Click share). The photos must be on the Ray-Ban Philippines Facebook Fan Page album or it will not be counted.

4. When it’s done uploading, copy and paste the link on my comments box on this entry. Remember, if it’s not in my comments, I will not check it. It will not be considered an entry for this contest. Don’t forget to leave your whole name and email address, or I won’t have a way to contact you!

5. In the comment, also tell me about the photo. Where were you when it was taken? What’s your summer sunglasses story?

6. I will choose the best photo based on the links sent to me. One lucky winner will take home a brand-new pair of Ray-Bans (Jackie O. if a girl, Aviators if a guy. Unless you ask otherwise, of course) courtesy of Frank Briones and Thinline Advertising. The winner will pick up the sunglasses from the Thinline Advertising upon notification.

7. Deadline is noontime on Sunday, March 7, 2010 at 12 noon.

Good luck!

P.S. I’m screening the comments because you guys will be sharing links; I need to make sure I’m not getting spammed for this entry. Hope you don’t mind the delays! But don’t worry, I’m checking your entries regularly :)

May 2009. Subic, Philippines. It was the summer when I got my first taste of a real beachside vacation. All the elements were present: gentle breeze, bright sun, sandy beach, rolling waves, marshmallows, my sunglasses, and a stress-free mind. For those perfect 30 minutes I spent staring into the waves behind the gentle purple tint of my sunglasses, it was then that I realized

“This is a vacation. Nobody will take this moment away from me.”

As long as I had my shades on and my marshmallows aplenty, the summer wouldn’t end until I said it could.

It was one Hot Sunday Morning when I decided to wear my boyfriend’s rockin’ Aviator Sunglasses. I did some poses and my boyfriend suddenly said “Don’t move, I’ll take a picture of you”! Luckily, he captured a nice photo of me. A rockin’ photo and aviator sunglasses ready to beat the heat this summer! =)

El Nino can be such a killer but it can also be a good excuse to wear a knitted fedora and some hip sunglasses while strolling the shopping districts. This photo was taken inside a summer-y booth that sprouted along High Street some time in February. We got curious and before I knew it, my friend got into Annie Leibovitz mode and started snapping my pictures. This is my favorite among the gazillion pictures she took. Proof that whether it’s on the beach, by the pool down the sandbar or in the heart of the
bustling metropolis, there’s simply no escaping summer fun.

The photo was taken in Summer 2009 in front of Notre Dame in Paris. My family loves Paris so much and had been pinching our annual budget to save for our next Parisian summer (this should include a short trip to Disneyland where everyone has the right to be a child again, including me!!!). Everything in Paris is majestic and I am keen to open my daughter’s awareness to the beauty and goodness of the Parisian culture! You can obviously see in the pic how she enjoys the place!

This photo was taken during a spur-of-the-moment lunch picnic in a random park/cemetery in Bradford, England in April 2007 after a long, tiring day of volunteering for the campaign against the racist British National Party. Strange place for a picnic, I know, but the place was so beautiful and my co-volunteers and I had so much fun and shared lots of laughs! Looking at this photo warms my heart and reminds of the most unforgettable summer I’ve ever had. That was the summer when I flew out of the country for the first time, lived thousands of miles away from home for months, regularly interacted with people from different cultures, had so many life-changing experiences and realized that I wanted to be a lawyer who helped others, with or without money, and well, met the love of my life. :)

It was my first time to visit Boracay Island and I had a wonderful vacation! The sea water is so clear you can see fishes swimming even when the water is at your knee level. And hey, let’s not forget that summertime is the most dangerous season for our peepers that’s why I did not forget my stylish sunglasses.

Given the chance, we would have opted to just sit and relax, gaze into the horizon, wait for the sunset, while sipping our favorite drinks… :D

Summer only means one thing, Boracay! The sun in your head, the sand on your feet and the sea in front of you; all telling you that you are at the right place at the right time. So here is a 2008 photo of me and my girlfriend just having fun with our camera while enjoying the sun. While the green algae may be a bit of a letdown, it actually plays a role as a bleaching agent. Yes,summer is almost here. While most people would already be hanging out of town, people like me (who still have work… even on holidays) I can’t just easily go out of town and relax. So instead, why not enjoy what’s offered here around the metro? Like what we do every weekend..This picture was taken in Fort open field for a 6-weeks sports camp where people can enjoy playing frisbee, flag football, volleyball, yoga, hip-hop and a whole lot more!

The sun can truly be scorching at times but as long as I packed my sunscreen, a cap and my shades- there’s nothing more but to enjoy the sports you love with the best people around! Ah yes, this is my summer glass story!

Just another reason how you can enjoy your summer around the metro (with your shades of course!) :)

The day before that we went to Bangus Festival in Dagupan and the day after, we went to Baguio. We had such an awesome week.

I don’t get to see much of them often since we’ve gone separate ways — most of us went to med school while some have gone corporate or to law school — but looking through our pictures last summer always brings back the happy memories. :D

One of the best thing in my life can be told in this picture alone. After graduating college with honors, my dad decided to throw in a surprise grad gift for me which entails a trip to Caramoan, Camarines Sur with my friends and a brand new shades as well. I was really surprised when my dad gave me this grad gift because as much I hate to admit (giving gifts is not much a tradition in our fam). To have this gift is definitely a big gesture coming from my parents and I am definitely grateful for such a big surprise they gave me. Yes, It’s one gift I’ve never expected to come but it came.

Caramoan is definitely a beautiful place, even for someone like me who’d rather stay at home at dig the ps3. A once in a while getaway to such haven will definitely leave u rested and chillax before even remembering the real world.

Everytime I go and look back at this picture, I’ll always remember to just relax and take things easy.

    Because life is definitely good!

My favorite summer look would always the free-spirited, good vibe, beach-y look. Don’t you just wish summer just go on and on and on… forever?

Sun, sand, beach, sunscreen, swimsuit, sarong, sunglass– check check check check, all check! :)
