To be honest, when I first made my blog public last week, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I thought it was overconfident of me to be giving away five bags of makeup, primarily since I didn’t know if I’d even get five people to join the contest! Two days later, I was laughing giddily–I got dozens of replies to the question, “What’s the funniest thing about being twenteensomething,” and many of them were well thought-out anecdotes about going through quarter-life. The response was beyond what I expected (I ended up reading about 110 entries) and for that, I’m very grateful. That’s why I’ll be holding another contest this week, so stay tuned! It was really hard to pick out just 5 answers, and I want to give stuff to regular blog readers.
Congratulations to Karen Joyce Pineda, Eos, Rain, Skyray and Tata Francisco for joining my makeup giveaway contest! You guys each won yourself a gift pack courtesy of The Body Shop. Have fun trying out the makeup looks for the Spring 2010 collection above. Winners, please contact me at biancaconsunji@yahoo.com to find out how you can claim your gift packs.
I love their takes on being twenteensomethings. Karen made me laugh when she said, “The funniest thing about being one is that every year at the very same day, you close your eyes tight, intertwine your two fingers and concentrate very hard as you wish for the very same thing you wanted last year. ‘I wish I won’t grow old.’ Only to realize a year later, that your wish never came true and you face another birthday cake candle.”
Eos said she enjoyed being her parents’ “oldest living headache,” and that “the funniest thing about being twenteen is that there’s always a battle between your rapidly maturing self and your inner kid. There’s the difficult decision of choosing between your usual can of Coke or an overpriced glass of Pinot Noir. Your great-looking pair of low-heeled black shoes or your funky Chucks. Going classical or remaining as an anemic popster. Sugarless mint or lollipop. Jollibee or a ritzy restaurant. Indecisions.. indecisions.. indecisions…”
Rain cited the “Situations such as dealing with your mother about adult responsibilities that you’ve majorly slipped up, only to find yourself answering like a teenager in a body of an adult. Or times where you ask yourself, why did I do this and think:
a) I’m too old for this.
b) I never learn.
c) I should’ve known better.
d) All of the above.
Skyray told me about how she “was rushing to get a condo so I can live on my own… but ended up always coming home for a nice home cooked meal… Bought a nice, sturdy bed so I can sleep soundly at night… but the most comfortable for is the space right smack between my mom and dad.”
Tata hit the nail on the head when she said, “The funny thing that KILLS me about being a twenteensomething is that when you’re at work, you’re expected to deliver the same results as a seasoned professional, handle the same amount of stress as a veteran, and deal with crises in the same mature manner. But when you have an idea that you want to try out at work, these same workmates who expect so much from you bring up your age and ‘inexperience.’ BoooOOOO! So you go, “So what AM I?”
Congrats again, and I look forward to hearing more about your lives!
